Self-driving laboratory
A Self-Driving Lab (SDL) is a closed-loop research system that combines an automated experimentation platformwith artificial intelligence (AI). Instead of humans manually performing trial-and-error experiments, an SDL autonomously runs experiments and learns the fastest route to an optimal solution.
We use a self-driving lab to explore the optimal electrolyte for each battery system, through three key components:
- In silico screening : filtering electrolyte ingredient candidates computationally before experiments
- Automated cell fabrication & testing : building and evaluating 18650 cylindrical cells through an automated sequence of mixing, electrolyte injection, sealing, and testing
- Machine learning model: proposing the next experimental composition and guiding the search toward optimal electrolytes more efficiently
